Combating intersecting crises with a suite of evidence-based, community-driven programs
Our Response
The 7ASIDE–ASHA2Gs Model
Building on YOCUPA’s experience with the Safe Motherhood Action Groups, this model mobilizes community members and students to become bystanders who act. The program challenges harmful norms, empowers witnesses to intervene, and fosters safe environments across homes, schools, and universities.
The 7ASIDE– RESARTEC Model
YOCUPA’s signature innovation, integrating Research, Arts, and Technology, merges theatre with social science by implementing:
- Pre- and post-drama surveys to measure community knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors before and after interventions;
- Ward Development Committees that are engaged as local entry points, ensuring that each project is community-led and sustainable;
- The connection of emotional learning with measurable impact, ensuring that theatre is not only transformative but is also research-driven.
Zambian Youth Theatre
Based on the Theatre for Community Action (TCA) philosophy and approach to education, YOCUPA’s Zambian Youth Theatre uses art to open dialogue on difficult issues from GBV to HIV to climate justice. In 2025. YOCUPA launched House of War: House of Glass, Zambia’s first youth-led climate and gender justice play, reaching over 5,000 people in its first three months and earning national recognition from the Ministry of Arts.
Digital Safety and Child Exploitation Response
YOCUPA operates Zambia’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Hotline, which:
- Receives confidential reports of online child sexual abuse
- Works with international partners to remove exploitative images and videos
- Helps protect and empower survivors whose materials have been shared online
This initiative aligns with YOCUPA’s broader mission to ensure child safety both online and offline.
